Every September the Members of the Angling Club fish for the Arthur Norton Cup which is now over 50 years old. Arthur was born in Birmingham on 6th August 1901 and was raised in the Sparkhill area of the City having lived at 70,Stoney Lane,Sparkhill. Arthur was over the years employed as a toolmaker at Lucas's in Great King Street and later in life was also a foreman at Sutherland Gas Meters in Warwick Road, Greet.. Arthur was a founder member of the Angling Club together with Leonard Endall and Frank Stevens which was formed just after the Second World War. Sadly Arthur died of Cancer on 11th February 1950 and the Cup was purchased in his memory.
Pictured above is Arthur's daughter Sylvia who contacted me recently to ask me if I would be happy to display a photograph and small plaque of her late father in the Clubhouse also in his memory. We got together at her home in Moseley and she presented me with the photograph which will be hung in a suitable place in the Clubhouse.
I have also invited Sylvia to Present the Cup to the Winner of the contest this September 2008 which she is quite happy to do.
